Tricky projects & funny stories:

These are a few trick projects we encountered and the measures our team took to ensure the event remained a success.

Last Minute AGM

In 2019 with less than 24 hours notice, our team we recommended to a bank to supply technical production for their AGM and Annual Dinner, which had unfortunately undergone a last minute change of venue. Now being hosted at the Armourer's Hall in London, Our team had to find a way to carry over 2 tonnes of LED Wall, cameras, microphones and an entire broadcast rack to their main hall, with no access to any lifts and unclear instructions from a client that shall go unnamed.

Our team simply took this in the stride and arranges a mass of local crew to assist in this mammoth task, with everything delivered tested and set with enough time for rehearsals. The event went flawlessly and one of our staff still receives Christmas cards from the client to this day!

New Venue... More Rooms... We need live streaming... oh... and we're in Italy

In October 2015, out team were conference managing and providing technical production for an annual conference on critical infrastructure in the EU. This year it was set to take place in an auditorium in Brindisi, Italy. 2 weeks ahead of the event, our conference manager was told that the conference would not be able to be hosted in the main auditorium as it was under reconstruction... so we arranged a solid wall divider to split the foyer in half! This beautiful foyer stood above ancient roman ruins! in the same phone call we were notified that there was to be a 3rd room added to the event, hosted by a museum across the courtyard!!! Oh, and by the way, we are now livestreaming the event too!

We always plan for redundancies, and when we arrived in Italy, after a long 4 day commute from London; we then found out that there was to be a 4th room that the client had failed to inform our conference manager about, this didn't deter us one bit, and in under an hour we had the smaller breakout set up with spare equipment we'd brought along just incase!

Fire! Floods! And a Social Work Show that starts the next day

In 2024 in a well known venue in Manchester, our long time and one of our favourite clients "The Social Work Show" was setting up one calm Sunday afternoon. For this event we provide technical support and production for around 8 conference rooms and AV for their Exhibition. Just as out team signed off the last room as "ready to go" for the next day's early start, the fire alarm went off and all 25+ floors in the venue were evacuated, our team, at the instruction of the client did the sensible thing, and evacuated to the pub next door for a spot of dinner.

Around 3 hours and 10 fire engines later we found out that the main boiler for the venue had exploded and leaked through into 3 of our 8 conference rooms, rendering them and the kit inside them, unusable for the event. Thanks to some quick thinking from the client "Event Manager Kellie", we relocated all the rooms, and our team got started setting up all our spare equipment without a quibble, and actually... the event went amazingly!
